With cloudHQ you can set up a real-time backup of all your Box Enterprise and Box Business accounts to Amazon S3 and Amazon Glacier.

Real-time data backup automatically makes a backup copy of every change made to your Box files. This means that cloudHQ is essentially capturing every version of your Box files and saving them to Amazon S3.

It allows the Box administrator to restore data (or create a snapshot of your system) to any point in time. You can think about cloudHQ sync as a very powerful version of Apple Time Machine.

In addition to Amazon S3 and Glacier, you can back up your Box files to a variety of cloud storage services, including Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.

To set up real-time backup of your Box account, you need to create backup sync pairs.

Backup sync pairs define how cloudHQ will back up files from certain users. Backup pairs will back up each of your users’ Box accounts to a dedicated folder. For example:

Box (bob@acme.com)   -> Amazon S3/Backup_bucket/Box (bob@acme.com)
Box (alice@acme.com) -> Amazon S3/Backup_bucket/Box (alice@acme.com)

Here are step-by-step instructions for how to setup the backup sync pairs:

Box Business and Box Enterprise Preparation:

1. Ensure that you are a Box for Business admin. The instructions are here: Box for Business admin.
2. In some Box installations, third-party applications might be disabled. You will need to check if third-party applications are disabled in your Box account and enable them. Amazon S3 Preparation:

Before you start the cloudHQ wizard to back up the files for your Box users, you first need to create an appropriate Amazon S3 bucket, Amazon AWS IAM user, and configure Amazon Glacier policies for your backup bucket (if needed).

To do this:

1. Create an Amazon S3 bucket to store your Box backups.

3. Set up Amazon S3 to Amazon Glacier archiving rules. Instructions are here: https://support.cloudhq.net/how-to-setup-archive-to-amazon-glacier/.

Authorize cloudHQ to access your Amazon S3

In order to backup your files to Amazon S3, cloudHQ needs to be authorized to access the Amazon S3 bucket you have dedicated for backup.

To do that, you must provide a key ID and a secret access key for an IAM user that has full read-write access to your backup bucket. If you don’t know what that is, please check here: https://support.cloudhq.net/how-to-figure-out-your-access-key-id-and-secret-key-in-amazon-s3/.
